Warm Hearts come to a Stony Pass

We did a four-wheel drive excursion to Stony Pass above Silverton, Colorado as a memorial to Russ' dad. Ten of us scattered some of his ashes at the pass and paid tribute to his life. I found the whole day so moving, and a perfect way to remember him. Several years ago, he confidently drove me up the Kleinschmidt grade out of the Snake River Canyon; the scariest drive on a so-called road I have ever experienced. Driving our convoy of four-wheel drive vehicles seemed like an appropriate way to honor a man who not only enjoyed driving, but built such roads during his career.

Stony Pass. Altitude: 12,592 feet.

Arrival at the top.

It was a beautiful day.

Everyone took a turn.

Russ and I spent an additional night in Silverton. It's so close to Russ' family home that we usually just pass through so as to arrive sooner. We've also visited Silverton in the past by taking the narrow gauge train from Durango and just spending the day in town. We ate dinner on the first night at the Golden Block Brewery and enjoyed the wood-oven pizza and local brew. Our trailer was parked within walking distance of everything in town, and was right on the river with mountains all around us.

Fabulous fall color.

So much food. As good as gold.

The building edifice.

Time passes quickly at Russ' childhood home. We settled back into our routines here, but are spending a lot more time helping Russ' mom sort through areas of the house and prepare for the winter. I've also been fixing and cleaning the R-Pod. A few minor repairs like re-seating the screen on the door, cleaning the cat litter box, cleaning the bathroom, restocking, and doing laundry. I've also signed up for a one-month membership at the San Juan College Human Health Performance Center in Farmington so I can take Zumba classes while I'm here. It's really easy to get lazy and not exercise enough. We do enjoy going on walks at the local parks, like the Berg Park and the Animas River Trail in Farmington.

Goose Island. Not it's official name.

Arches all the way to the (river) bank.
