The Eclispe and Beyond

We watched the Total Eclipse from d'Hanis, Texas. Russ found a ruin that was a public park, St. Dominic Catholic Church. It made for some lovely photos, but we didn't get to see the eclipse, because it was completely cloudy the entire time. Of course, it did get dark, but now I feel like I need to travel again to see another one.

Waiting for the eclipse.

A nice, old cemetery.

We met some lovely people while waiting.

This was the best view of the sun all day.

The Eclipse begins.

Nearing totality.

Totality.

Totality (the camera kept trying to brighten the photo).

Traffic on the way back to San Antonio.

Yeah.

We spent another day in San Antonio to get some chores done (laundry - I'm looking at you), and go have a nice dinner at a favorite restaurant, Paloma Blanca. It was just as good a I remembered. We also took a nice walk along the Riverwalk near our RV Park.

Nice facility, no waiting.

Where we started.

Where we ended up.

Turtle!

It's a great trail.

More bluebonnets. They were blooming all over Texas.

Yum!

Tandem Coffee on our last morning in San Antonio.

Fun Art all around the place.

The back patio at Tandem.

We left for Austin and points north. I was so impressed with the Texas bluebonnets. Getting to witness the bloom in the spring was a highlight. I've wanted to see it, but never thought it would work out, timing-wise. It was such a treat. Austin was fun, too. We spent the day there mostly walking around town and seeing the sights. We did just over 10 miles, according to our devices. It would have been more pleasant if it weren't so hot, but it was what we got. The shade under the trees of the riverfront parks felt nice after a long day out in the sun.

The highway has longhorns. Nice design.

Austin Beer Garden Brewing.

Nice space with lots of live music.

We left before the band started. It was a long day.

Our spot at Pecan Grove RV.

Downtown graffiti.

Lady Bird Lake Park.

Sunset views of downtown Austin.

Gorgeous.

Engineering.

Geese, and not the Canadian kind.

Walking the park.

The Texas capital building.

Public art.

More interesting sculpture. Canoes.

Lunch at the Crown and Anchor Pub near the University of Texas.

A cold beer on a hot day.

I liked the pride flag on the church.

More river. Plus lots of cranes in town.

A grackle finds a meal.

Dinner at Juliet Italian Restaurant.

The had fresh made pasta.

Prosseco.

Romantic outdoor seating.

Bar.

I bought some eggs here. A surprisingly good market.

We made one last stop in Texas at Barking Rocks Winery. We loved it. The property was quiet, so Cedar had a great time, too. We bought a lot of wine, plus walked to the Brazos river for some more pictures. The bluebonnets were still going strong, along with paintbrush wildflowers as well.

The history of wine.

The winemaker and his product.

Appreciation.

Inside the garage-style door was a long history of wine made here on tape.

Bluebonnets.

More wildflowers with bluebonnets.

Under the vines, pollinators.

Near the vines.

The Brazos river.

The flowers smelled so sweet.

Sunset from the R-Pod parking spot.

A bakery that was recommended to us. We wouldn't have found it on our own.

The line never got shorter.

Worth the wait.

Mushroom and cheese croissant.

Baked, the bakery that our host recommended in Granbury, Texas, was all that. Everything was so good. It was an unexpected treat that we would never have discovered on our own. I also picked up some sourdough for later, a loaf of jalepeno-cheddar bread for the trailer. Next up is Oklahoma.
