Junctions, Del Rio, an Air Museum and a Thunderstorm

We left Study Butte but got one last view of Big Bend , as our highway out was through the park. We stopped at the Panther Junction Visitors Center and Bookstore, and got to see the last corner of the park as we drove out. I managed to find not one, but two books to buy, and a postcard to represent Texas on our (still broken-hinged) RV fridge.

I have a few more postcards waiting to mount on the fridge cover.

The sign.

The truck and Pod, ready to go.

Southern Texas was empty and beautiful.

Texas calls the roadside tables "Picnic Areas." It's a metal grid table.

We stayed in Del Rio, Texas. Originally, I had planned for us to stay in a state park situation with no hook ups, but I was desperate to do laundry and the high temperatures made us decide to go for an RV park with hook ups so we could continue to run our AC. I choose the RV park with the best laundry facility reviews in the area, the Broken Mill RV Park. It was a nice place! They were getting ready to host 1000 National Guard to help with border security. Del Rio was the city that ended up on the national news with thousands of mostly Haitian migrants living under a bridge. This area had a ton of law enforcement. We saw a LOT of speed checks, but we never speed to we had no issues. There were also several Border Patrol Checkpoints. Del Rio was a neat town. Russ found a pizza joint called Lou's Woodfired Pizza. Delish.

Our first Starbucks breakfast since we left home.

This grackle got himself a grasshopper right in front of the window.

We made it into San Antonio and set up at the Texas Air Museum through Harvest Hosts for the night. The Museum was small, but great. I learned about Texas military aviation, and they had some nice aircraft on display. I also learned the Mexico provided pilots to the WWII effort, and they trained at Kelly (the base where we were).

A good place to visit.

There were several canvas and wood planes, including a Wright Flyer.

This was so amazing. I'm glad I learned about this story.

The cockpit controls display.

Note the R-Pod. This is where we parked for the night.

Found under the plane. Turns out he belongs to Snoopy.

Snoopy. So sweet. He has reserved parking, too.

We had trouble switching our fridge over to propane operation. After fussing with it and having it on battery for a while, it started working. Magic. The clouds really built up and we enjoyed a hot, oppressive, humid night of thunderstorms. I would have preferred to keep all the windows wide open, but the rain was blowing in sideways, so we didn't sleep too well. The humidity has been hard for me to adjust to after a long spell of dry heat.
