We woke earlier than usual and just got up to get going. After breakfast at our local Starbucks because we had no food in the house, we did our last minute house close-up tasks and got on the road by 8:30. This is a familiar drive for us; it's the most natural way to get over the Cascade mountains from Tacoma. If Snoqualmie Pass is closed, we will head south first and cross using the Columbia River Gorge. It started raining right at the top of the pass, and has kept coming ever since. It's great to see some moisture on the dry side of the state, they have had a difficult year. The rain should help extinguish the fires that are burning, too. Even with the rain, the air here is super smokey. I've been coughing from the irritation.

We are staying at Harvest Hosts on this trip for the first time. I like it. It is a nice step up from most boondocking and much better than a crowded campground. Many hosts have no hookups at all, so you are dry camping. It is free to stay, and you are expected to do business with the host. So for us at Purple Star Winery, we had a wine tasting. It's something we would be happy to pay for anyway, and we also bought two bottles for the road.
Being back in the R-Pod now feels like home to me. I have quickly settled in to our travel routine and and excited to see what is around the bend.
